Another Audit Urban Legend

First, thank you to Allen Engel for sharing his own audit urban legend. If you missed it, you can find it as a comment on the first urban legend posting.

This next one I heard is from a guy who worked at an emergency room in Las Vegas.

This auditor was doing fieldwork in Las Vegas. One night the allure of Vegas got the better of him, and he stayed up way too late and had way too much to drink. Events began to blur, but he specifically remembered talking auditing with a girl in the bar.

The next morning he woke up in a bathtub full of ice. His whole body hurt and there was paper everywhere. His eyes came to a slow focus to see his briefcase slashed open and a note written in lipstick on the bathroom mirror: “Call your boss. I’ve stolen your findings to sell on the audit black market.”

I know there are more of these legends out there. Let’s hear them.

Two auditors were on their way home from an audit in rural Montana when they spot a box in the middle of the highway. The lead auditor says, “Should I hit it with the Company Car”? The second auditor replies “Better not were still in trouble for the last dent”. Agreeing, the lead auditor swerves at the last second and misses the box. As the lead auditor drove on he checked the box in the rear view mirror and to his surprise out popped a significant audit finding.
  1. Nice one.
