The Stones Visit WIIA

Hi, and welcome once again to WIIA – the home of all the internal audit hits. Today we’ve got a very special surprise – The Rolling Stones playing one of their biggest internal audit hits.

You’re the kind of person you meet at certain
IIA affairs.
Hiding in the crowd with a furrowed brow
And a vacant, haunted stare.
‘Cause you work with pride and it hurts inside
Every red mark on each page.
And though you’ve tried you just can’t hide
Your growing since of rage.

You better stop,
Look around,

Here it comes, here it comes, here it comes, here it comes,
Here comes that nineteenth report rewrite.

When you joined the team they made it seem
That you did everything all right.
But then they’d complain and review notes came
And you were working through the night.
Your AIC keeps changing things
And it only makes it worse.
And the manager just put it back
The way you wrote at first.

You better stop,
Look around,

Here it comes, here it comes, here it comes, here it comes,
Here comes that nineteenth report rewrite.

Oh, who’s to blame?
The whole team’s insane.

Well, nothing I do don’t seem to work;
Each word I change just makes it worse.
Oh, please.

You were still in school when you were the fool
Who thought you knew your mind.
You thought a team based in auditing
Would treat their people kind.
You tried real hard on your first job
To make it all just right.
But after a while you realized
You’ll do nothing but rewrite.

You better stop,
Look around,

Here it comes, here it comes, here it comes, here it comes,
Here comes that nineteenth report rewrite.

(This is for Rod Wright. Rod, I know you know why.)
