A Fill-in-the-Blanks Audit Report

In an effort to provide another solution to the report writing problems we’ve all been experiencing, I offer you the following “fill-in-the-blanks” report. Just choose a random number from one to six for each of the blanks below and, before you know it, you'll have the perfect audit report.

In our opinion, the control environment  is           A           _. Our review of             B             has revealed             C              . The department has                D            which has resulted in              E            _. It is our recommendation that               F              and we further recommend that                G           .

Underlying processes
Best practices
Taken steps to mitigate all risks
An unbelievably clean audit
These best practices be shared throughout the company
Consideration be given to properly reward all involved.
Darn close
The important stuff we could find
One heck of an effort
Worked real hard just before we showed up
Things looking better than they really are
They try just a little harder next time
They think about doing the work when they are supposed to.
Comme si, comme sa
A little of this and a little of that
Some good things, some bad things
Done some of this and done some of that
Some good results and some bad results
They take some actions and ignore some others
They become more decisive
Not the best
The lousy work they showed us
Wishing things were right doesn’t make it so
Offered us a generous bribe
Us not giving them a ineffective opinion
We look the other way right now
We show up again next year because they gave us some really neat stuff
Those far-out little sheets they do their work on
The answers to life, the universe, and everything
A vibe going that just can’t be explained
One of the grooviest happy hours we’ve ever attended
You please get off the towers
You have to try those brownies!!
A disaster
Everything they had done wrong (which was everything)
Sheesh..you have to be kidding
Apparently lost any common sense they ever had
An inability to find a single thing they did right
All evidence of the department’s work be burned
All involved be summarily hung

  1. This is more than worthy posting in the Internal Audit Dept. Bulletin Board. Better yet, present it to the Audit Committee. Haha.
