More Music for the Holidays

For today’s audit carol, a song from the Broadway hit “The Sound of Auditing” which has become an auditing carol classic.

I Found Weak Controls

Unsecured credit and duplicate payments,
Escheated checks that had too many claimants,
Auditees’ stories full of gaping holes.
These were some times when I found weak controls.

Key information free and unrestricted,
E-mail and texts that were all unencrypted,
Fudging statistics to meet foolish goals.
These were some times when I found weak controls.

When the banks fail,
When the stocks flail,
When all trading’s banned,
I simply remember the findings I’ve found
And know I’ve done all I can.

Lack of direction, approvals backdated,
Critical duties still unsegregated,
Trusted employees just out on parole.
These were the times when I found weak controls.

When the cops come,
When the deeds done,
When the crooks are canned,
I simply remember the findings I’ve found
And know I’ve done all I can.

Tomorrow, more auditing carols for your enjoyment.
