Warning Labels for Internal Audit Reports
In this increasingly litigious world, everyone faces the growing risk of lawsuits. Internal auditors have no magic charm that makes them exempt. And, as so many others have learned, one of the best defenses is to warn people of the potential limitations and hazards. With that in mind, I present a set of warning labels for internal audit reports.
Controls in hindsight may be less impactful than they appear
Read, lather, repeat
May cause blurriness, trepidation, fatigue, or termination
Do not operate heavy machinery after implementing these recommendations
Caution: Findings may have shifted after your agreement
This product not intended to replace real thought
Keep out of reach of childlike minds
Concepts within this report may constitute a choking hazard
Not for human consumption.
Warning – reading may cause drowsiness
Do not reuse recommendations for subsequent audits
This product not intended for use as a risk management tool
Keep away from executives
Do not read with a blade or sharp implement nearby
Not dishwasher safe
Flammable if handled by irate personalities
