The IIA's 2012 Internal Audit Compensation Study

 

Attracting and retaining high-caliber talent is crucial to ensuring long-term business success and competitive advantage. And being equipped with the best compensation data in the profession is important in executing your audit department’s talent management strategy.

 

For the fifth year in a row, The IIA has performed its annual internal audit compensation study. This year’s 2012 Internal Audit Compensation Study Report summarizes salary and other compensation information for more than 1,800 internal audit professionals working in 280 organizations in the United States and Canada. The study was conducted through a partnership with a leading human resources consulting firm. Through this collaboration, The IIA is able to ensure the most comprehensive, valid, and credible compensation study for the internal audit profession available in the market.

 

Human resources departments, chief audit executives, audit committees, and other audit professionals have relied on this amazing service from The IIA since 2008. The data in the 2012 report can assist audit executives and employers in assessing current pay practices and plan for the future.

 

Information was collected for salaries and other pay practices directly from employers. Thus, the results provide current compensation trends for the organizations as a whole and for the internal audit profession. The report is arranged in four sections:  

1. Demographic information about the employers responding to the survey.
2. Salary trends and current retention strategies.
3. Factors impacting salary trends.
4. Salary results by individual audit positions.

New this year, The IIA’s Audit Executive Center published a special report summarizing key trends based on this year’s compensation study. This report is included at no additional cost to individuals ordering The 2012 Internal Audit Compensation Study Report.
