2012 Changes in IIA Certification Exam Seat Time
In order to streamline the CIA exam process for candidates and to avoid an impending price increase in the delivery of exams by our vendor, The IIA is reducing the number of un-scored questions on the CIA exam and specialty exams.
- For each CIA part, the number of questions will be reduced from 100 to 90, of which 80 will continue to be scored. In addition, the time allowed for the exam will be reduced from 2 hours 45 minutes to 2 hours 25 minutes. An additional 5 minutes will be allowed for the survey at the end of the exam.
- For each specialty exam, the number of questions will be reduced from 125 to 115 (of which, 100 will continue to be scored), and the time allowed for the exam will be reduced from 3 hours 15 minutes to 2 hours 55 minutes with an additional 5 minutes allowed for the survey.
IMPORTANT: The reduction in the number of un-scored questions does NOT impact the passing score as the number of scored questions required to pass remains the same.
In order to facilitate this reduction, the exam tutorial, which was previously only available to candidates once they had arrived at the test center and been admitted, will now be available on our web site – https://www.globaliia.org/certification/pages/CBT-Exam-Tutorial.aspx. This tutorial will be available in all 20 languages in which we offer exams.
These changes will be implemented by exam and language using a phased process. Noted below is a tentative schedule for the roll out of the CIA exams. As dates become final, this web page will be updated to reflect those dates. Please check back often for your specific language. The roll-out of the specialty exams is targeted to begin late 2nd quarter, and that schedule also will be posted here as it becomes available.
