Earn CAP Credits for Your Certification Promotions
The Institute awards Chapter Achievement Program (CAP) credits for participation in certification promotion as follows:

Certified Internal Auditor® (CIA®)

  • Chapter achievement credits will be awarded for every institute certification review course. Achievement credits will be computed on the basis of equivalent continuing professional education (CPE) credits for classroom instruction and the total number of attendees.
  • Five achievement credits are available for each certification certificate presented by an institute.
  • Five achievement credits are available for each hosting of the Certified Internal Auditor examination (10 credits available per year).
  • Five achievement credits are available for each CIA exam question that passes the first screening by the Board of Regents. Ten achievement credits are available for each question used in the CIA exam. (Please note: Credits will not be awarded if money is paid to the individual.)
  • Two achievement credits are available for each Certified Internal Auditor proclamation.
  • One additional achievement credit is awarded for institute-approved international nomination if the nominated member is a CIA.
  • Two achievement credits are available if the chapter president holds the CIA designation.
  • Five achievement credits are available for offering a CIA recognition night (one event per year).

Certification in Control Self-Assessment® (CCSA®)

  • Five achievement credits are available for each CCSA exam question that passes the first screening by the Board of Regents. Ten achievement credits are available for each question used in the CCSA exam. (Please note: Credits will not be awarded if money is paid to the individual.)
  • Five achievement credits are available for each CCSA certificate presented by an institute.
  • One achievement credit is available if the institute president holds the CCSA designation.

Certified Government Auditing Professional® (CGAP®)

  • Five achievement credits are available for each CGAP exam question that passes the first screening by the Board of Regents. Ten achievement credits are available for each question used in the CGAP exam. (Please note: Credits will not be awarded if money is paid to the individual.)
  • Five achievement credits are available for each CGAP certificate presented by a institute.
  • One achievement credit is available if the institute president holds the CGAP designation.

Certified Financial Services Auditor™ (CFSA™)

  • Five achievement credits are available for each CFSA exam question that passes the first screening by the Board of Regents. Ten achievement credits are available for each question used in the CFSA exam. (Please note: Credits will not be awarded if money is paid to the individual.)
  • Five achievement credits are available for each CFSA certificate presented by a institute.
  • One achievement credit is available if the institute president holds the CFSA designation.

Receive a Sawyer Award for an Outstanding CIA Program
The Lawrence B. Sawyer Awards provide IIA institutes with the opportunity to demonstrate their commitment to the CIA program and the internal auditing profession. The Sawyer Awards are presented annually to the three institutes and three organizations contributing the most to the growth and development of the CIA program and are based on institute size.

The Sawyer Award recognize institutes for promoting the CIA program at the institute level. Each year the competition is based on four consecutive CIA examination cycles. Points are awarded based on the percentage increase of new candidates taking the exam, the total percentage of representation of CIAs in the organization or institute, and overall CIA candidate performance.

Institutes are encouraged to apply each year for this prestigious award. Please keep in mind, institutes cannot win this award two consecutive years. Awards are presented at The IIA's International Conference annually. CIA Academic Outreach Award
This award recognizes those schools that have contributed most to the CIA growth annually. Each year the competition is based on the previous two exam periods. The top three schools with the most new CIA candidates and the most new CIAs will be recognized.
