Message from the Vice President of Professional Certifications

Cyndi Plamondon,
CIA, CCSA, CFSA, CGAP, CRMA

Dear Colleagues,

Even though we are just in the first quarter, 2013 is already shaping up to be an exciting year in the development of the future of our profession.

I am excited about the development of a pilot offering of a new global qualification in internal audit leadership. Different than any current IIA certification, this program would use the latest assessment methodologies to allow candidates to demonstrate those critical leadership skills to help them be successful in audit management positions.

In this issue, we are asking for your participation in a quick survey to help us further define the need within the profession and get your thoughts on how The IIA can best address the leadership skills this new designation would assess. Please take a moment to respond now — we need your feedback
by 9 April 2013.

Next up, we get to know current president of The Institute of Internal Auditors Research Foundation Board of Trustees, Sharon T. Grant, CIA, CRMA, a little better in Certification Spotlight.

Many of you will be pleased to know that we are right on target to launch the new 3-part Certified Internal Auditor exam as planned on 1 July 2013. Registration to begin signing up to take the exam in English opens on 1 May 2013 for appointments beginning 1 July.

In addition, those are the same dates for the all-new Certification in Risk Management Assurance (CRMA) exam. Registration and scheduling opens 1 May 2013 with the opportunity to appear for the exam beginning 1 July. I am grateful to the many CRMA certified volunteers who stepped up to contribute to this inaugural exam through item writing and verification. Future certificants will benefit from the wisdom and experience of those who continue to help us define what it means to be an internal audit and risk management professional.

With the development of a brand new qualification on the horizon, along with fresh, contemporary questions launching the new CIA and CRMA exams, the future for internal audit and The IIA is indeed looking bright.

Sincerely,

Cyndi Plamondon, CIA, CCSA, CFSA, CGAP, CRMA
