February 2012

We received certification information for our chapter from IIA for those completing certifications in November and December. We have 2 new CRMA’s (Certification in Risk Management Assurance): Scott Putnam and Annaliza Warner. We have 1 new CFSA (Certified Financial Services Auditor): Krista Eidem and 3 new CIA’s: Jennifer Braunreiter, Jodi Sievert and Renee Johnson. Congratulations to all!!!

The January 18 program, Effective Audit Report Writing, was hosted by Annie Goetzinger at Briggs and Stratton Corporate headquarters. Feedback from the participants was very favorable. Most rated the survey components as Excellent or Good. Participants commented that the chapter should: “Consider offering more of these types of ‘back to basics’ programs.” Participants also said that this was: “Good training with good opportunities to benchmark with other companies and how they are putting together their IA reports” and “I would recommend this program to someone who was looking for a program covering the overall report as I thought it was good.”

The January 25-27 program, ACL 303: Advanced Concepts & Techniques: Functions & Scripts, was hosted by Steve Schmidbauer at Fiserv Leadership Center. Steve reported that “Overall, the feedback I received for the ACL session and the instructor was positive.” ACL will be sending Steve a copy of the satisfaction survey results.

We have our slate of candidates for open officer and board of governor positions. The ballot will be out to our membership for a vote by the third week in February. Thanks to all who have expressed interest in our chapter leadership positions.

There is still time to register for our February 16 program: Auditing 3rd Parties. Yorm Ackuaku is hosting at Brookdale Senior Living, 6737 West Washington Street, Suite 2300, Milwaukee. The presenters are Gregg E Angerson and Eric Andolina from Crowe Horwath and Mark J Laube from Microdynamics Group. The presenters will explain the need for new perspectives on 3rd party risk management, identify 3rd party relationship risks, explain components of 3rd party audit programs and discuss 3rd party risk management considerations. See the Events section for more details.

Our featured exhibitors for February are New Era and Experis-Finance. See the information in the blocks below. This is a special way to thank each for the support provided during the regional conference. Please consider these exhibitors for future projects and assignments.

Our products are used exclusively on the IBM zSeries (Mainframe) platform. Our typical target audience is systems programmers but one tool, StepOne, is designed to demystify z/OS for auditors, giving them a better understanding of z/OS by generating reports in plain English. This allows for a common ground between auditors and systems programmers. It starts at the absolute z/OS baseline, the Input/Output Definition File (IODF). Think of the IODF as the hardware/software interface. You can see more about StepOne here .

NewEra Software, Inc, offers StepOne, a fully supported  and licensed software tool at no charge. StepOne is integrated with our Image Control Environment (ICE) application. It will help auditors accelerate their understanding of the zPlatform while helping z/OS systems programmers prepare for an audit. StepOne allows users to dynamically and automatically create a zEnterprise Configuration Baseline. From there it will expose potential configuration weaknesses, risks that need to be mitigated. Most z/OS shops are familiar with ICE and will easily be able to install and set up ICE to run in a few hours. Reports generated are in plain English, allowing for a bridge between auditors and systems programmers. You can learn more about StepOne at http://www.newera.com/StepOne/product_description.pdf or by emailing Jerry Seefeldt at jms@newera.com.
