President’s Message
May 2008

Hello Members and Guests!

I would like to convey to all members and guests that it has been a privilege and a wonderful experience to be your president. I think it is a great opportunity to serve the chapter and to work with and meet so many wonderful people. The chapter has so many talented and committed members that assist in all aspects of the chapter. The board members, officers, and committee members dedicate hours of their time to ensure the chapter is fulfilling its providing the best service possible to the members. I know sometimes things seem to operate very smoothly but it takes a lot of work to put the programs and seminars together. My hope is that more chapter members get involved to assist in this work as the chapter grows.

Program

We have many interesting and educational events this month, a great program by the IIA District Advisor and Associate Director of Audit & Advisory Services for UCLA regarding. He will be discussing the importance of Quality Assurance Reviews (QAR) and their impacts on the Internal Auditor.

Seminar

This seminar provides attendees with a general overview of basic fraud concepts, as well as a review of specific areas such as statutes and standards related to the recording, reporting, and prosecution of fraudulent activities, internal auditor responsibilities in the audit for fraud, and fraud detection and prevention techniques. Also addressed during this seminar is the classification of frauds, investigation techniques, and fraud within information technology. The seminar will incorporate several case analyses of frauds perpetrated by employees and how such frauds were identified and investigated. The seminar will also introduce and incorporate the basic concepts of forensic analysis as a means of further investigating fraudulent activities by organization personnel, third party providers, and contractors.

International Conference Around the Corner

Remember to look through the newsletter to find out more information regarding how you can get the discounted rate for the conference as well as how to become a volunteer. More details will follow regarding the volunteers and what the process will be for coordinating and transportation.

Please make sure you fill out the upcoming survey so we can plan the next year keeping your input in mind. The survey will also have a question or two regarding volunteering so please let us know if you want to be involved. Remember filling this our will make you eligible to win a free IPOD!

I look forward to seeing you at the next meeting!
