President’s Message – February 2009
Aloha,
We had another large turnout in January to hear Blair Bautista from Deloitte give us an excellent presentation on what Internal Auditors need to be aware of in "Fraud in a Downturn Economy". Blair was even able to convince Carey and Don to share some war-stories with us, which helped to validate and amplify his points. He generously consented to make his slides available on our website.
Since all of us are closely watching our audit expenses, quality local and online training is becoming an increasingly necessary alternative to distant travel. Along those lines, our Seminar Committee has arranged a partnership with Kamehameha Schools to offer a 4-day, intermediate level auditor training course. If your company is interested in arranging internal training but would similarly like to partner with IIA to build the head-count and lower per person costs, please let us know. We will also be hosting an on-line audit training course as a 3-hour event in early April. In that session you'll be able toexperience online training first-hand and obtain CPE in the process. These alternatives might be just what you are looking for in this budget conscience year.
February's speaker will be Chris Magnussen, Manager of Internal Audit Corporate Performance and Quality Review at HMSA speaking on "Health Benefits Auditing", a very timely control topic for Internal Auditors. As you might recall, our October speaker mentioned this as an area in which he identified costly issues in his own company audits.
Please note the increase in our February luncheon fee when arranging your payment.
