Message from the President

Congratulations to the volunteers and members of the Hawaii Chapter of the Institute of Internal Auditors for making Silver status in the IIA’s Chapter Achievement Program (CAP)!! Our Chapter is 348 points away from Gold status and maintaining our IIA Platinum status for the eleventh year. The CAP measures each Chapter’s health by providing goals and points in three major categories: service to members, service to the profession and Chapter administration. One of our recent service items to the profession was a 2011-2012 University of Hawaii academic scholarship awarded in December 2011. Since the Platinum status was established in 2002 there are only 21 Chapters out of 154 Chapters that have maintained the Platinum status for the last ten years. Our Hawaii Chapter is one of those 21 Chapters who have achieved Platinum status since 2002.

Each member’s attendance at the monthly luncheon is one of the contributing factors for our CAP status. Thank you for your attendance at January’s luncheon where we all learned a great deal about current fraud scenarios occurring in the MGM properties from Bob Rudloff who flew in from Las Vegas to speak with our Chapter. Bob entertained each participant at the sold out event for our January luncheon. Thank you Don Sealey for organizing a wonderful speaker, providing first class hospitality to our mainland guest, and showing Bob our beautiful island. We have an incredible line up of upcoming speakers so please confirm your reservations for each lunch by the RSVP date as our last luncheon was sold out and we were not able to take any walk-ins.

Get ready to save some time for education, socialization and consumption as we have three extraordinary events coming up during the month of February.

1. On February 13th and 14th, the Chapter will hold a two day seminar “Fraud: From Suspicion to Conviction” at the Plaza Club. See page 4 for additional details.

2. Our monthly luncheon will also be on February 14th. Mr. Daniel Ray will be speaking on the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA).

3. Then join us on February 29th for our Member Social at Chai’s Island Bistro at Aloha Tower Market Place.
