Presented by:

Andrew J. Dahle, Partner, PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP

The Chicago Chapter of the IIA, with the help of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, brings to you a special two-part "hot topic" training session focused on considerations for internal auditors related to the adoption of International Financial Reporting Standards, and preparation for the changes to the IIA Standards in 2009. Please consider joining your fellow Chicago Chapter colleagues for this special session and be sure to register soon as space is limited.

IFRS in the US - Considerations for Internal Auditors

Over 100 countries already use International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).  The SEC announced that it will propose a roadmap for the adoption of IFRS in the US:  The move from US GAAP to IFRS is inevitable.  What does this mean for US companies?  What are companies doing today to prepare for this change? How might internal audit departments play a role?  This presentation will focus on the background of IFRS as it comes to the US, high level changes to financial reporting and lessons learned from companies in Europe/Asia approached the change.  The objective of the presentation is to provide internal auditors with an understanding of IFRS so that they can be prepared for the changes that their companies will face.

Presenters:

James L. Svab, CPA, is a Partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in Chicago, providing accounting advisory services to the financial services industry.  He is the leader of PwC's IFRS conversion practice for the insurance industry, which includes advice and support to companies converting to IFRS in the areas of strategy, technical advice, training and project management.  Earlier in his career, he lived in Zurich where he worked on IFRS conversions, audits and transactions of companies seeking access to the capital markets.  In addition to IFRS, Jim's experience includes US GAAP accounting advice, internal control implementations, US and foreign capital markets transactions, forensic accounting, divestitures and due diligence projects.  He is a graduate of Illinois State University, where he currently serves on the Advisory Council to the Department of Accounting.

Julien Hontang is a Chicago-based Director with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP over 14 years of experience.  Julien consults on financial accounting and SEC reporting, GAAP conversions and cross-border capital raising transactions. Prior to relocating to Chicago in 2007, Julien was based successively in Paris, Frankfurt and Zurich where he served global clients, providing US Capital Markets and transaction accounting advice under both US GAAP and IFRS.

PART 2

Are You Prepared for the 2009 Changes in IIA Standards?

The IIA recently released changes to the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing.  These are the most significant changes since at least 2004. This is one element of the anticipated full release of the new International Professional Practices Framework in January 2009.  Are you aware and implementing in your 2009 internal audit processes the Standards changes effective January 1?  Among the changes are Standards driving increased internal audit linkage to the audit committee, independence communications to the audit committee, expanded roles in fraud risk and information technology, and expanded communications on the internal quality programs of Internal Audit.  Learn about the changes now, so that you can leverage the opportunities the changes bring, and not miss a beat on your function's compliance with Standards when the January 1st date comes.  Come take advantage of this opportunity to hear a member of the Internal Auditing Standards Board provide a full perspective behind the Standards changes and their meaning.

Presenter:

Andrew J. Dahle, CIA, CPA, CFE, CISA, is a Partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in Chicago, serving clients with internal audit sourcing and internal audit advisory services.  He has been the PricewaterhouseCoopers representative on the IIA's Internal Auditing Standards Board (IASB) since early this decade.  He is currently Vice Chairman of the IASB, and has been actively engaged with the deliberations leading to the current Standards changes.  Andy is also co-author of the IIA's book Implementing the Professional Practices Framework.  He is also a past President of the IIA Chicago Chapter Board of Governors.  He holds his Bachelor and Master degrees from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and is a member of their Presidents Council.
