Come to the Puget Sound IIA South-End Summer Meeting and hear the US Secret Service speak on electronic crimes and security threats. This presentation will address the Electronic Crimes Task Forces and current schemes and scenarios they are investigating. Don’t miss your opportunity to ask the Secret Service questions on how to combat the proliferation of these crimes. Recent Department of Justice Headlines includes: · Grand Jury Returns Indictment Charging Nine Individuals with Exceeding Authorized Computer Access (May 12, 2010) · Indian National Sentenced to 81 Months in Prison for Role in International Online Brokerage "Hack, Pump and Dump" Scheme (April 26, 2010) · ‘Hacker’ Indicted in Massive Tax, Mail, and Wire Fraud Scheme (April 8, 2010) · Four Indicted in $25 Million Scheme Defrauding and Hacking Ticketmaster, Tickets.com, and Other Ticket Vendors (March 1, 2010) About the Electronic Crimes Task Forces (ECTFs): Under the USA Patriot Act the Secret Service was mandated to establish a nationwide network of ECTFs, These ECTFs work with law enforcement, prosecutors, private industry and academia to prevent, detect, mitigate, and aggressively investigate attacks on the nation’s financial and critical infrastructures. ECTFs work on cases that involve electronic crimes including support and resources to field investigations related to: · Significant economic or community impact · Participation of organized criminal groups involving multiple districts or transnational organizations · Use of schemes involving new technology Meeting Details: Here’s your opportunity to support the Puget Sound Chapter, receive local training in the south sound, network with your South-End colleagues, and receive CPE.
