Speaker's Topic: Impact Makers - Creating a Social Entrepreneurship Model From the idea that a business can exist to benefit its community and that employees want more from careers than paychecks, sprung Impact Makers, a competitive social venture led by senior consulting executives, dedicated to do things differently. Impact Makers competes head-to-head for contracts in the highly competitive professional services consulting world. But here is one critical difference: Impact Makers has no ownership and our profits, by corporate charter, go directly to our nonprofit community partners. Labeled “social entrepreneurship” in academic, business and political circles worldwide, the idea is not new, but real-life implementations are rare indeed. Impact Makers is pioneering the application of this concept through our innovative business model. Business Week magazine named Impact Makers the second most promising social venture in the United States in 2009. The ranking recognized the nation’s top social entrepreneurs who are growing a business while also bringing about societal change. Rodney Willett will discuss Impact Makers and how it is making a difference in the Richmond community. Speaker's Biography Rodney Willett joined Impact Makers in 2011 as Vice President of Business Strategy and oversees the company’s business development efforts nationally. He has more than 20 years of experience working with government and commercial entities and helping to meet their management and technology needs. Rodney also is an advocate for educational and other public interests. He is the immediate past chairman of the Richmond Montessori School Board of Trustees and just completed his 11th year of service to the board. Rodney founded the Pulley Family Endowment at the College of William and Mary in order to fund public service work by student volunteers world-wide. Rodney currently serves on the Public Policy Committee of the Board of the United Way of Greater Richmond and Petersburg and is a member of the Board of Directors of Wintergreen Resort. Rodney attended the College of William and Mary for his BA and JD degrees. He completed high school at the Collegiate School in Richmond.
