Regarding our CSA facilitation training, the instructor wanted to remind chapter members that the seminar is NOT just for those doing CSA or wanting to obtain the CCSA certificate. The content of the training also includes excellent materials and exercises about using identifying controls, using COSO to map controls, entity-level controls, and using a Risk Matrix. The controls and risk assessment approaches are based on Larry’s April, 2009 article in Internal Auditor magazine titled The Risk Matrix Revisited, and on his COSO Map tool. So, the seminar is not just about CSA.

In doing CSA, the facilitator needs to have a rock-solid understanding of risks and control, because they are standing in front of operational experts, leading them through the self-assessment process. If the process the facilitators employs is not solid, the experts will know it. That same approach can be used in traditional auditing.

So, in deciding on attending this seminar, make the decision on its risk and control content,  not just on the title topic of Control Self-Assessment. If you attend, you will learn valuable approaches to risks, controls and facilitation, whether or not you use CSA.
