Nathan Cunningham's Biographical Information Nathan graduated from BYU in 2001 with a Master of Accountancy degree. He worked at Grant Thornton in Salt Lake City for 3 years as a Senior Assurance Associate, where he specialized in financial institutions and helped incorporate advanced Excel data analysis into the audit process. He also wrote several programs in Excel to streamline the work paper documentation process. After Grant Thornton, he moved to Deseret First Credit Union, where he built the internal audit and risk management functions from scratch. He worked as the AVP of Internal Audit for 5 years, then served over the Compliance, Internal Audit, Fraud, and Risk Management functions as the AVP of Risk Management for 2 years, during which time he helped uncover over $700,000 in internal fraud losses. He also designed a fraud case tracking database for the credit union, created an Excel template to help streamline the institutions QC process on membership signature cards, and presented several Excel training courses to credit union employees. He is now the Internal Audit Manager at Mountain America Credit Union, where he has been for the last year. He is currently serving his first term on the ACUIA's (Association of Credit Union Internal Auditors) Board of Directors, and he received the ACUIA's Best Audit Practice award in 2005 and 2006. He presented at the 2006 ACUIA Annual Conference on creating effective risk assessments and has presented numerous other topics at the ACUIA local chapter meetings. He also received the ACUIA's Article of the Year award for the organization's "The Audit Report" publication in 2011. Nathan has been a member of the IIA since 2006.
