Fraud and the Accounting Profession

Learning Objectives & Program Content:  The presentation will define fraud in general and will focus on accounting fraud, the following sub-elements will be
covered:

• How to find Fraud
• Why we Don't Catch More Fraud
• Procedures and leading practices to detect Fraud

     Dana is the Managing Director in charge of the San Diego office's Due Diligence, Forensic Accounting, and Valuation Services Group and has 37 years of public accounting experience. Dana often speaks at professional conferences and he was honored as the Outstanding Conference Speaker by the California Certified Public Accountants Education Foundation for 2008 and 2009.
     Mr. Basney has wide experience as an expert witness and has acted as a consultant to attorneys in a variety of cases in Federal District Courts, Bankruptcy Courts, and state courts. His testimony has involved such diverse matters as fraud, accounting and auditing Standards, accounting malpractice, business valuation, economic losses and tax matters. He has testified in such exotic jurisdictions as the High Courts of Guam and American Samoa. Mr. Basney has also been appointed as special master, joint expert in matters of valuation and accounting, mediator, and settlement referee in a number of court cases.
     Mr. Basney has taught courses in Advanced Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Business Valuation and a variety of other accounting and business classes since 1982 at the University of California in San Diego. He also teaches Fraud Examination and Forensic Accounting in the graduate program at the University of San Diego and is a published author on the topic of fraud and forensic accounting.

The deadline for registrations is Friday, September 3rd at 5 pm.  Around that time the regular prices will not be available and a late reservation may not reserve a seat if the luncheon is full.
