Class Overview: Using the Canaudit audit approach, security is analyzed using a combination of scripts, tools and exploits to identify weaknesses before they can be exploited by hackers. The seminar will include identifying the information risks in your network, the general controls review, determining the IT risk universe, scoping the audits, firewalls, IPS, IDS, securing and segmenting the network, monitoring connectivity and pattern changes, identifying poorly secured machines, determining patch levels, vulnerability testing, using services to take control of a system, critical attach areas and prevention techniques, excessive rights, backdoor accounts and default passwords, internet exposures, undocumented dial in access and vulnerability assessment.

Instructor: Chris Schroeder, CISM is the Senior Manager of Technical Audits at Canaudit and a team leader of the Canaudit Penetration Team. He is internationally recognized as an expert in the Windows environments and a published author on many security-related topics including network security. He has an impressive track record in his chosen specialties of network penetration and vulnerability assessment, operating systems audits, network audits and forensic investigations. His pioneering work in wireless LAN security has set the standard for others to follow. As a former United States Marine, Chris has a unique insight when performing physical security audits. He enjoys the security field, particularly the rapidly changing environment and the challenges it poses. He is constantly adapting and testing new security exploits in his efforts to further the audit and security professional body of knowledge.
