Topic:    Audit Tools and Techniques – Another Angle to Consider

Instructor:           Martha Zimmerman, CIA, CISA, CMA

Martha Zimmerman is a practicing Audit Manager with ten years of experience in the audit and risk management world with related activities.   Her experience has been global, taking her across many cultures and a variety of manufacturing and related business processes.  The work has taken her to four continents and over 20 countries as a Manager in a large multi-national enterprise.

Her formal education is based in the IT realm, but the vast majority of her work experience has focused on accounting and audit disciplines.  This IT background coupled with the accounting-related work experience give her unique perspective into auditing.  Her experience spans the personnel spectrum from hourly and clerical staff to the executive offices, allowing her to enhance her communication, coaching, and mentoring styles.

Martha has presented to local IIA chapters as well as international IIA events, with a focus on enterprise risk management.  She has also presented various topics such as internal auditing, risk management, and general career coaching to regional university organizations and accounting classes.

Topic Description:           Most auditing organizations have employed, or at least considered employing, one or more of the various audit tools that provide mechanization, analytics, or enhance efficiency to the audit process.   Many organizations have purchased or developed and implemented such products, which offer great potential to improve audits.  There is another angle to consider, though, when analyzing audit tools and techniques.  It is the most valuable tool of all – the auditor.

Through an interactive, conversational session with examples and scenarios, the participants will explore various ideas, techniques, and options to improve their individual audit effectiveness, while also building the value their audit work brings to their organizations.  Increasing the value, building partnerships, and identifying risk through effective audits delivers results…  and that is our goal – to deliver results.
