Post Meeting Presentation

1:10 pm to 2:00 pm

Speaker:                       John Wallace

Phone, Email:              520-5776; jwallace1@satx.rr.com

Credit Hours:                1 CPE

Proposed Audience:     All Levels of Auditors

Session Title:               The Perfect Financial Storm

Purpose:         Help auditors trace the causes and effects of the current financial and economic crises, including the mortgage crisis, the credit crisis and inflationary pressures.  Help auditors to identify and understand technology threats that could exacerbate the current crisis.

Attendees will learn to:

  • Identify and understand the causes of the current financial and economic crisis
  • Identify and understand the iterative effects of the current crisis
  • Identify and understand technology threats that could exacerbate the current situation

Course Overview:    We are in the midst of a perfect financial storm, a confluence of events that will affect the business climate and our economy well into the next decade.  What is interesting is that there is a common thread running through all of these events that is of particular interest to auditors.  What is fascinating is that some of these events closely mirror a relatively recent national crisis that cost taxpayers hundreds of billions of dollars.  Finally, there are technology threats that, in concert with recent events, could exacerbate the current crisis.

Speaker Bio:            John Wallace is an engaging, innovative leader in audit, security, risks and controls.  While he is proficient at assessing the financial and operational health of companies, as a Certified Information Systems Auditor he is particularly skilled in auditing information technology service providers.  Mr. Wallace’s most recent experience includes leading audit and risk management activities in Fortune 500 and Fortune 100 financial services companies.  Mr. Wallace also spent several years working for the US Treasury as a federal bank examiner.  In that role he lead financial, operational and IT examinations of financial institutions, as well examinations of some of the nation’s largest IT service providers.
