Topic: Auditing Contracts
Auditors have a significant role in assisting management in identifying and mitigating risks associated with contracting for services. The contract management process is full of issues and possible pitfalls that must be managed if desired outcomes are to be achieved. Potential losses from poorly written or improperly monitored contracts can be significant to an agency in terms of cost, time, and re-work. By reviewing key phases of the contract management process, auditors can provide assurance that a control framework is in place to support the appropriate use and effective management of service contracts. (Doug Archer, IIA 2003)
