Session Title: “Audit Committee Interactions: How You as CAE Can More Effectively Serve Your Bosses”

Purpose: To help audit management and others explore opportunities to more effectively serve their Audit Committee members.

Attendees will learn answers to the following questions:

• What does the IIA’s Professional Practices Framework require?
• What were the key results of the IIA-Austin Chapter survey on Audit Committee relationships?
• How would your Audit Committee members and CEO answer the question?
• What are some of the leading practices to foster effective relationships?
• What are some useful references on this topic?

Course Overview:        The audit director’s relationship with the Audit Committee is a key responsibility in better assuring the success and the influence of the Internal Audit function.  This presentation was originally deliver at the IIA’s General Audit Management Conference and provides some practical tips and techniques on how further developing and strengthening this relationship that is vital to effective governance.

Speaker Bio:  Dave MacCabe is a CIA and CGAP and holds a Master of Public Administration degree from Texas State University.  He is an internal audit professional with over 25 years experience as a chief audit executive at organizations such as the Teacher Retirement System of Texas and the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts.  He was the founding chair of the Texas State Agency Internal Audit Forum and a founding member of the IIA Austin Chapter.  Dave also holds The IIA’s Certification in Internal Quality Assessment/Validation and has conducted or participated in over 30 external quality assurance reviews.  He has facilitated seminars for the IIA, various IIA Chapters, the Texas State Auditor’s Office, Texas State University Certified Public Managers Program, and other professional groups.  Dave‘s topics have included CAE leadership, managing the audit staff, the human side of auditing, QAR/peer reviews, ethics and governance, Audit Committee effectiveness, and building relationships with management.
