- Internal Auditing in 2012: Challenges, Opportunities and New Horizons (Richard Chambers) - As the new year dawns, it's time to take stock of where the profession stands and where internal auditors should focus their energies in the year ahead. - Starship PCAOB: Going Where No External Auditor Has Gone Before – Auditor Discussion & Analysis (Dr. Dennis Elam) - The PCAOB has proposed a radical change in the content and construction of the Standard Report Form for an External Audit. It would require the Auditor to:
- Perform and Auditor Discussion and Analysis similar to MD & A, all about risk
- Expand the Emphasis Paragraph to discuss management judgment
- Provide assurance on information outside the statements
- Provide reasonable assurance about fraud, disclosure, management responsibility, preparation, auditor responsibility, information outside the statement, and auditor independence
Other than that, nothing will change. How will this affect the work of the Internal Auditor who will now apparently be expected to critique his or her own management?
- Update on Recent IIA Guidance: What Do Auditors Need to Know? (David MacCabe) - What do practitioners need to know about IIA guidance over the past year? Guidance material includes professional standards, practice advisories, practice guides, and other material important to internal auditing practice. It's often difficult to keep up with all the revisions to IIA guidance material and what the changes mean to internal audit practitioners. This session summarizes recent changes in IIA standards, new practice advisories and practice guides, interesting internal audit publications, and highlights from the landmark 2010 Common Body of Knowledge survey.

- Hidden in Plain Sight: Investigating on the Internet (Allan Bachman) - The internet is an ocean of information. Sometimes searching it for information can be as simple as locating a book to buy. But what about information on individuals you may be investigating or researching? This session is designed to help you optimize your searches, understand how this all works and make yourself more productive. Attendees will also explore the interconnected nature of social networks and media and see how exposed private information can be.
