Approaching IFRS

Presented By: CMA Ontario

October 23, 2008

Overview:

Recommended Role of Internal Audit:

Similar to SOX – (1) Project Oversight; or, (2) Consulting and Project Support – design effectiveness, thus precluded an audit of design effective for 12-months post-project; or, (3) Ongoing Monitoring and Testing – with the caveat that management are responsible for the design, documentation and operational effectiveness of internal control over financial report; or, (4) Project Audit.

Practical Considerations – (1) Source of Consultants; (2) Source for Documentation and/or for Testing; (3) Source for the Lead Project Manager; (4) Source of Training or Information about Controls; (5) Source for Control Self-assessment; and, (6) Certifier in the Disclosure Process

Speaker:

Colin M. Shaw

Colin M. Shaw, B.A. (Hons), CMA, ACMA, CFE, CIA brings a wealth of subject matter expertise and experience to the position of CMA Ontario Director, Public Accounting, including a disciplined approach to change management.  Over the course of his career to date, he has developed breadth and depth of practical knowledge and value-add application in internal control over financial reporting, disclosure controls & procedures, internal audit and anti-fraud programs.

Mr. Shaw joins CMA Ontario from CIBC Internal Audit & Corporate Security, where he was a Senior Director and participated in SOX Certification from year 1 onwards.  While directly responsible for Finance audits, where he liaised with external auditors, regulators and consultants, he also developed the risk-based audit methodology for SOX-sensitive businesses and oversight groups, both at the company-level and the transaction-level.
