January 2012
Salutations & Greetings!
Today is the first of three Friday the thirteenths (January, April and July) in 2012[1]. And how successful have you been at writing 2012 instead of 2011? I hope you enjoyed last month’s presentation on preparing for natural disaster as much as I did. I believe Cody is right, planning and actually doing (not talking about) some preparations are key not only at home, but critical at work. When I was younger, all too often I didn’t do anything, about preparing my home for a disaster and as I’ve gotten older, I find that I’m more inclined to do some (a little here, something there) preparing. I have found that over time, I’m better prepared than I was, and I’m more inclined to do something more, the next time I think about or am forced to think about disaster planning.
February is our last special networking emphasis month. Please bring some of your business cards to the meeting. Introduce yourself to someone you don’t know and have them sign the back of one of your business cards. Put the card(s) in the drawing basket and if it’s drawn, you and the person who signed your card will win movie tickets to a Warren Theater.
Our February speaker will be Rob Southern, a Human Resources Consultant with Kennedy and Coe, LLC. A graduate of the University of Kansas, he is a certified Senior Professional in Human Resources through the Human Resources Certification Institute. His topic will be “Human Resources Auditing & Controls.”
Two local companies have provided sponsorship for our chapter this month. Many of you are familiar with Kennedy & Coe, LLC, a CPA firm providing financial accounting and consulting services. You may not be aware of CornerBank, N.A. They are a Kansas-owned community bank with seven convenient locations. My thanks to both of these chapter partners for their support!
This month, three will be the charm. For the past two months I’ve used our online registration. In case you were wondering, it’s easier the second time. Let me again encourage you to give our online registration a try (http://www.theiia.org/wichita). As always, should you or any of your IA[2] team make a reservation and NOT cancel it 24 hours prior to the meeting, the chapter’s Board of Governors expect you to honor your reservation and make payment.
I’ll wrap up this month’s letter with two reminders. First, Valentine’s Day is coming (it’s Tuesday, February 14) and second, our next chapter meeting will be at the U.S. Ag Bank (Farm Credit Bank Building) on Thursday, February 2nd from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm.
Please make plans to join us!
Don Carlson
President, Wichita Chapter of IIA
