President’s Message by Carmela Schmitz: Happy holidays! I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving, and is looking forward to Christmas and the New Year. Hard to believe it’s almost 2009 already. And what a tumultuous ride 2008 has been! Personally, instead of dwelling on the negative news in recent months, I remind myself of the many blessings I and my family have to be grateful for, and look forward to improvements in the future. I hope each of you do, too. I’d like to welcome Melissa Groth, of Bemis Company, as our new Newsletter Chair. She has graciously agreed to organize our newsletters for the coming year. Thanks, Melissa! If any chapter member would like to submit an article, event photo or other information for the newsletter, please contact either Melissa or myself. And thanks also to our outgoing Newsletter Chair, Kimberly Smith, of Integrys. Thanks for all you have done. The chapter board is always considering ways to further serve the members, and we are again planning a winter social event. In January, grab your airhorns and cowbells, and come to a hockey game! We have tentatively planned a Green Bay Gamblers game at the Resch Center from the comfort of a corporate box. Please respond to a recent email to gauge the level of interest in attending. So far this chapter year, we’ve held two training sessions, one on October 7 about internal controls, with Dr. Larry Rittenberg as speaker, and another on November 6, with James Roth speaking on Best Practices in Internal Auditing. What a great start to the year! For those members that missed either, you can read brief summaries about the sessions in our current newsletter. Our next training session will be held on February 11 related to IT. You can read more details about this session on our chapter website and in the newsletter, and you can register online through links. The training schedule for the remaining chapter year continues to be updated. Your chapter officers and members of the board are working to finalize the sessions for 2009. Please check our website home page for the most current event information, and for a link to the current 2008-2009 Training Schedule for upcoming chapter events. Please remember that the process for registering for training is two steps if you pay online: registration and payment via PayPal are separate steps. And if someone registers/pays on your behalf, please indicate in the comments section that information, so that we can sync up the payments with the registrants. Thanks for your efforts to make the process smoother. A reminder: Hopefully, all chapter members periodically go to our chapter website for updates and information. The next time you do, please review your Profile and verify that your contact information, especially your email address, is correct. Having correct email addresses helps us stay in contact with you, our members. Lastly, it’s been a pleasure getting to know so many of our chapter members over the past chapter year. I hope to meet more of our members at the next training session. Until then, regards, Carmela President - Fox Valley/Central Wisconsin Chapter |
