ACADEMIC RELATIONS PROGRAM

 

Purpose:

The IIA is committed to increasing and enhancing internal auditing education in colleges and universities worldwide. As Internal Auditing is fundamental to the governance process of any well-run organization, an internal audit education should be part of every business and public administration curriculum. The focus of the Academic Relations program is to partner with colleges and universities to offer quality internal auditing programs, while exposing students to professional support and guidance in the Accounting profession.

2010 – 2010 IIA-Chicago West Academic Programs

Mission

The mission of IIA Chicago West Chapter is to develop and implement academic relations programs to achieve the goals and objectives of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), to create meaningful dialogue, and to be of community service to academia’s, professors, student and members of the audit community.  Our initiatives include developing relationships through educational programs among practitioners, educators, educational administrators, business and government communities which enhance and encourage knowledge, skills, and the understanding of internal auditing.

 Objectives:

  • To provide networking opportunities for academia, professors, students via specialty programs, training opportunities, and interaction with educational and business professionals. To continue working relationship with prior year university/college contacts.
  • To promote awareness of the Internal Audit Profession and the key responsibilities of Internal Auditors, and to generate interest and passion in the Chicago West Chapter.
  • To expose and provide real-life experience and guidance for students interested in the audit profession and/or related accounting fields via Audit Panels comprised of 4-6 professionals in diverse audit specialties.
  • To host or provide efforts for an Internal Audit Career Day which would provide interactive sessions for career building techniques (ie interviewing, resume writing, and follow up skills.)
  • To award 2 Mentorship Programs for undergraduate and/or graduate students pursuing auditing and/or related accounting field as a profession.
  • To award 1 Internship Programs for undergraduate and/or graduate students pursuing auditing and/or related accounting field as a profession.
  • To award 1 annual scholarship in the amount of $1000 for one undergraduate or graduate student pursuing an Auditing profession.
  • To solicit 2 educational institutions to become IAEP members at any designated level.
