President's Letter

From Michelle Torma, NCFIIA President

February 2012

Fellow NCFIIA Members,

Leap year is here giving us an additional day this year, but February still remains a short month.  In keeping with a shortened month this will be a short newsletter.  Our 5th annual FraudFest registration is underway.  The Program Committee has worked hard to offer interesting speakers and a variety of topics.  Topics this year include “Secrets to Linguistic Lie Detection”, “Workers Compensation Insurance Fraud”, “Governance is Paramount in Any Organization” and “How to Avoid Becoming a Victim of Fraud”.  Speakers include Nejolla Korris, an international expert in linguistic lie detection and Mark Funkhouser, international expert in performance auditing and authority on governance.  Mr. Funkhouser is also the former City Auditor and Mayor of Kansas City.     In addition, we have Detective Tony Defalco from the Florida Department of Financial Services Division to discuss Workers’ Compensation Fraud and Detective Matthew Goeckel and Officer Ernest Graham to help us avoid becoming a victim of a fraud.

Understanding the budget constraints many of us continue to experience, we have tried to keep the cost reasonable.  FraudFest is priced at $200 for 16 CPE hours for IIA members.  After February 29th  the price increases to $235.  Sign up today @ www.theiia.org/NorthCentralFL to ensure you receive our early bird special.

Have a great month!

Michelle M. Torma
President, NCFIIA
