Fellow NCFIIA Chapter Members,

I hope this finds all of you having a wonderful Groundhog's Day – and hopefully, Mr. Groundhog will bring us some warm Florida sunshine!

A HUGE THANK YOU to our great Program Committee, with a special Thank-you to Eileen Marzak for bringing the US Department of Justice and Florida Attorney General's Office training "Red Flags of Collusion" to the NCFIIA January training session. We had a wonderful turnout at the Doyle Conner Building with 63 attending, including several non-members and non-member organizations – Alachua County Public Schools, Brooks Health Systems, City of Ocala, GRU, Lake City Community College, ARC Consulting….to name a few! Besides being an excellent program, it was a wonderful opportunity to let others know about the NCFIIA!!

The Program Committee has another great session lined up for us this month. On February 18, 2010, bring your brown bag lunch to room 4150 in the Shands 1329 Building for 2 hours of CPE by viewing the IIA's webcast Continuous Auditing – A Practical Approach: Continuous auditing can be an overwhelming task, often with unclear boundaries and scope. With this webcast, you will learn exactly how to develop a continuous audit program. You will experience discussions that will include real examples and sample documentation. Be sure to register at the chapter website at http://www.theiia.org/NorthCentralFL. As usual, the Chapter will provide water and sodas. We hope to see you there!

The Program Committee is also working hard on the NCFIIA's 3^rd annual FraudFest on March 24 and 25th.

AND, be sure to hold late afternoon on May 20th open. We will be having an event on the CIA exam and holding our annual award ceremony. Dr. Irvin Gleim, who has been a member of the IIA for 30 years, has agreed to speak! I venture to say that the majority of us CIA's can say that without Dr. Gleim's study materials, we wouldn't be CIAs today!

Time really flies and it is already time to think about the next Chapter year! Ted Griswold, our nominating chair, is seeking nominations for Officers, Board of Directors and Committee Chairs/members for our chapter year beginning on June 1, 2010. Being active in our local chapter is a very rewarding experience and I encourage all of you to take this opportunity to become more involved with the NCFIIA. Please contact Ted at tedg@ufl.edu to volunteer or for more information regarding these opportunities.

One topic of business that I need to address is payment for chapter meetings and seminars. Although many of our functions are free to our membership, our quarterly meetings and seminars do require payment of registration fees. We have had situations that include no-show/no-pay registrants. The Board has approved the following NCFIIA REFUND/CANCELLATION POLICY: Refunds will only be provided for registration cancellations received more than 3 days prior to the scheduled Chapter meeting due to financial commitments with our meeting location vendor. If you register for a meeting and do not attend, please understand that you are still liable for payment of the registration fee. This policy is necessary because the Chapter is responsible for paying the site fees (dinner, presentation materials, etc) even if the registrant does not attend. This financial burden on our Chapter will lead to increased fees for future events – something that the Board does not want to happen. So, as a reminder, if you register for an event and do not cancel 3 days prior to the event, do not expect to receive a refund if you have paid, or, expect to receive a bill after the meeting if you have not paid. The Board hopes that this will allow the Chapter to keep our event fees at the lowest cost possible.
