Dear esteemed colleagues, fellow board members, it is a great pleasure to address to you as elected President for IIA Qatar Chapter. On this occasion allow me to thank you all for the trust in electing me.
I am delighted to give you an insight of my plans for the coming year. First of all, I am proud to be able to build on to a well established Chapter. Thanks to all the past presidents and board members. Hours of dedicated service were put in over the years. Also to all the members who support all the activities I owe my gratitude.
For the coming year, be assured that we are committed to have at least one seminar per month. There may be specific training sessions, but definitely a conference. If you recall, all our functions in the past have been huge successes. We had training on risk management, individual topics at seminars and then the conference this year, which was really a show stopper. We need to maintain our track record and where possible, even improve. I think we should go for an inter gulf conference this coming year.
As our membership base increased to 400, we are now ready to have specific focus on Special interest groups. Mr.Oliver Nordal who is one of our founder member and Past President is Chairing the special Interest group. Their role is to ensure that group related matters receive the required attention.
I encourage all members to participate beyond their membership level. You may write an article and send it to us to be published in our periodical newsletter. You may also help in identifying speakers and sponsors. Our target for the coming year is to increase the number of members from 400 to 500.
Advocacy has been added as a new portfolio. You may ask what this portfolio is..... What is advocacy? It is basically how proud we are about ourselves within our noble profession of Internal Auditing. Every year the Institute awards the best efforts under the IMAP (International mastering Advocacy Program) for their engagement in campaigns to promote the profession. May is the international month of IA awareness. In the past we could not manage to stage particular events to focus on the awareness campaign, but I promise you this year we will do it. Our Conference chairman referred to the woodcutter who had to “go further†This year we as a group, proud of our profession will GO FURTHER. I request all of your support in our joint campaign.
Last, ladies and gentlemen, I wish my newly elected Board all the success and I wish we can have a very good year serving you our valued members.
