President's Messages
=============================================================

February 2008

I hope everyone had a great start to 2008.  The chapter year is half way over, but the first half of the year was quite exciting.  In November, we made a bid for the 2012 IIA International Conference.  Although we found out in December that our chapter was not selected to host the 2012 IIA International Conference, we are very honored to have been asked to bid.  The Boston chapter will be hosting this conference and we wish them the best of luck!  In November, we hosted the CIA exam and found out recently that there are three new CIAs among us.  Congratulations!  Certificates will be presented at the May chapter meeting.

The second half of the year looks to be just as exciting as the first!  In addition to our monthly chapter meetings, we will also host a social and one free hour of CPE on February 20th and host a Fraud Seminar in mid March - check the website for more details.   At the UNO Accounting Department's 48th annual Scholarship and Awards Ceremony on February 29th, the New Orleans Chapter will once again award a $500 scholarship to a deserving student from the UNO Internal Audit Program.  Also in the spring, selected chapter leaders will attend the IIA Leadership Conference in Orlando to get energized about the upcoming year.

As you can see there is a lot going on within the chapter.  If you are interested in joining in the planning for the next chapter year, please send me an email and we will find something that works for you!

Thanks for your continued support,

Laurie Fitzpatrick
New Orleans IIA Chapter President

November 2007

I have great news to share with all of you!  The New Orleans Chapter of the IIA has been asked to bid for the 2012 IIA International Conference.  It is such an honor to be considered and says a lot about how our Chapter is perceived.  We have decided to pursue the bid, thanks to three of our Board Members who stepped up to lead us through the bid process.  These individuals are Mark Williams and Eileen Pansano with the Port Authority and Charles Monteiro with PoolCorp.  The rest of the Board and your Chapter Officers support them 100%!  The initial bid package was submitted on November 2, 2007.  Near the end of November, a team comprised of Mark, Dr. Glenn Sumners of the LSU Center for Internal Auditing, and a representative of the Convention and Visitors Bureau will present our package to the International Conference Committee in Orlando, FL.

I will keep the chapter posted through the President's Message of where we stand in the bid and selection process.  If we are selected, additional support from chapter members will be needed for the planning process and, of course, for the conference itself in 2012.

In addition to the conference bid, there are some other things that your leadership is working on such as:
- membership retention and recruitment,
- the monthly newsletter,
- as well as the ongoing task of organizing monthly chapter meetings.

As you can see, there is a lot going on right now.  For those who wanted to get involved...now is a very exciting time!  Contact any of your officers to become more involved and continue checking the website for more information.

Thanks for your continued support,

Laurie Fitzpatrick

 September 2007

I would like to take a moment to welcome everyone back from the summer break.  More importantly, I want to thank the Board of Governors and last year’s officers for a successful 2006-2007 chapter year.  Everyone really pulled together to get our programs back on track.  Because of their hard work and dedication, the New Orleans Chapter “took home the GOLD” from Leadership!

This year, we plan to take another step forward and offer a little more than just the monthly lunch meetings.  Our goal is to also provide additional opportunities for CPE as well as social networking.  We will also be focusing on membership recruitment and retention.

However, as Chapter leaders and volunteers we can only do so much...WE NEED YOU!!  Your involvement can be as simple as attending a monthly meeting or you can also choose to give a little more of your time by volunteering to participate on a committee.  Tell us how much time you can give and what you are interested in and we will find a task that works for you.  Believe it or not, there are chapter volunteers that we rarely see!  If you are interested in getting more involved or have suggestions/questions, please contact me.

Thanks for your continued support,

Laurie Fitzpatrick

October 2006

It is no secret that 2006 was a hard year for everyone.  While the New Orleans Chapter members were spread out in several states, the chapter was unable to bring its members monthly meetings and other continuing education opportunities.  Now that we’ve approached our 2006/2007 chapter year, we are back up and running.

The board members and officers are very excited to once again bring monthly meetings to our members.  Our first event of the chapter year was a lunch gathering at the Royal Sonesta Hotel’s Evangeline Suite.  A lunch buffet was served which included the ever delicious food catered by the hotel.  Thanks to everyone who attended in support of the chapter.  As usual, we will continue bring exciting topics and great restaurants.

Our next meeting will be held Thursday, October 19th at GW Fins, “Leadership in a Time of Change”.  Again we look forward to seeing everyone.  For more information about the meeting, see the event section of the chapter’s website.

Please keep Wednesday, November 1st available on your calendar.  We will bring members a joint meeting with the New Orleans ISACA Chapter.  Continue to watch for communications and the website for further information.

Our leadership team for the 2006/2007 Chapter year will include the Board of Governors, acting in the President role, with the support of Laurie Fitzpatrick, 1st Vice President, Ragini Roy, 2nd Vice President, David Brien, Treasurer and Patricia Levie, Secretary.  Please give the leadership your support by volunteering to serve as a greeter, suggesting speaker topics and names, coordinating an event etc.

If you are a chapter member and not on our email distribution list, please contact Sheri Mahoney at smahone@entergy.com; she will add you to the list.  If you’re a non-member or know a non-member who is interested in receiving chapter updates, Sheri can add them as well.

Look forward to seeing you at the next event.

Take Care

Kim
