PLEASE, SOMEONE TELL ME, "WHAT IS CAP??"
July 12, 2006
CAP is the acronym for Chapter Achievement Program. Someone in the Chapter keeps track of the credits the Tri-State Chapter earns for the Chapter Achievement Program. This program has been established with the basic idea that the mission of the chapter is to serve its members first and then the internal audit profession. It is sponsored by the International IIA to encourage local chapters to be active both for the benefit of the chapter members and of the local community.
Local chapters earn credits for the CAP through service to members, service to the profession, and chapter administration (reporting to International, participating in International sponsored events, and communications). The Chapter Achievement Program is made up of three performance levels: bronze (685 credits), silver (1,060 credits), and GOLD (1,560 credits).
In the year ending May 31, 2006, the Tri-State Chapter earned 2,244 credits. That means we won a gold medal! So, get involved and help the Tri-State Chapter to be the best we can be and maintain our gold standard!!
Believe it or not, you can contribute to CAP without making a long-term or time-consuming commitment. How? I'm glad you asked.
- Attend monthly luncheon meetings
- Attend chapter sponsored professional development programs
- Earn your CIA certification
- Earn a specialty certification
- Writing exam questions for the CIA, CCSA, CFSA, or CGAP exams
- Recruit new members (it's not too hard, everyone in your audit department should join)
- Present speeches or training sessions
- Submit internal audit-related articles for publication (either in Internal Auditor or any other publication);
- Provide an internal audit internship at your company for a student
- Come up with an innovative way to promote the chapter
So, as you can see, it's easy to contribute and it doesn't take too much of an effort. Keep in mind, as our membership grows it becomes a little more difficult to achieve credits. Therefore, it is vitally important that everyone attends monthly meetings and CPE events. I hope everyone now knows about the Chapter Achievement Program and is motivated to support our chapter throughout the year.
Here’s how we achieved Gold in 2006.
