BORROWING BOOKS

In addition to privileges extended to Siena College Students, borrowing privileges are available to anyone who has a DAP borrower card.

What is DAP?

The Direct Access Program (DAP) is a voluntary arrangement by which area libraries provide their patrons with direct access to other libraries in the Capital District Library Council (CDLC).  The program is designed to facilitate research beyond the usual resource sharing guidelines of CDLC.  The direct borrowing of material is dependent upon the cooperation of the users since the libraries are not obligated to honor a DAP card if the borrower does not observe the regulations of the lending library.

How Can You Participate?

Obtain a DAP card from the library where you are currently registered.  Your library can answer questions about the program.

Please remember that you are responsible for abiding by the rules and regulations of each of the libraries from which you borrow.  Also be advised that each library reserves the right to rescind the DAP card of anyone who abuses the DAP borrowing privileges.

Borrower Responsibilities:

  • You are responsible for what you check out.
  • Pay attention to loan period, recalls and return policies.
  • Keep your e-mail and phone number up to date in the Chapter Directory and with your local library.

Loan Period:  In general, one month.  However, some books are on reserve and can only be borrowed for three days and some are kept in reference and may not be checked out.

Renewal Option:  Subject to Siena College Library rules.

Checking Out Item:  With the lending library now in the hands of the Siena College Library, the policies for obtaining books from the lending library have changed.  Before you can borrow a book you’ll first have to obtain a Direct Access Program (DAP) borrower card from your local library.

Returning Item:  You may return items directly to the Siena College Library; however, depending on you local library rules you may be able to return a book to your local library via its interlibrary loan department.  Please keep in mind, however, that the borrower is responsible for all fines accrued until the book returns to the DAP library.

Lost or Damaged Items:  Items lost or seriously damaged should be replaced, and the borrower is responsible for this expense.
