Dear Colleagues and members of the Michiana Chapter #95 of the Institute of Internal Auditors:

Executive Summary:

1.      Happy Friday

2.      Insight to upcoming year

3.      October 11- Board meeting

4.      November 8 – Student Night

5.      Administrative

Happy Friday!  I do not know about you, but this has been one heck of a week (month, year…) for me.  Have you noticed it does not seem to lighten up, no matter how organized we are? The work just keeps piling on…  Most of you that I have talked to have the same story - more audits and assignments with the same or less staff.  Whom do we have to thank for that?

Bottom line: I know you are busy and I respect that, so I will be short.

Your president and board members have been working hard on building a Chapter Revitalization and Foundation plan.  We have some exciting activities planned for this year and have developed a three to five year plan that is gripping: Some serious “Wow”!  And we are on the hunt for future chapter leadership.

The first sentence of our chapter mission statement says: “The mission of the Michiana Chapter of IIA is to provide quality training, development and networking opportunities to all of our members…”  As chapter leadership, we will be working as a team to deliver on that mission.  And we will need your support – the story is simple - this is your chapter: Collegiality and collaboration are the keys to success.

You will notice some immediate changes this year.  Most of our meetings will be evening meetings.  Our meetings will be a ‘one stop shop’ so reserve the second Thursday of the month for IIA activities.  Our meetings will consist of a central location, comfortable business environment, great meal, a super topic of interest, CPE, and networking.  And all for around $40.00.  The best bargain in town!  Our board will be meeting before or after the chapter meetings - full coverage in one night!

Mark your calendar for October 11.  This is a board meeting; however, the membership is cordially invited to attend.  This will be a working dinner meeting with a guest speaker.  Like most of our meetings, it will be held at IUSB where we have negotiated for excellent accommodations for our monthly meetings.  You will receive an Email addressing this meeting in more detail in the next two weeks.

More importantly, mark your calendar for November 8, our annual student night.  We have experienced over 75% growth in attendance over the past two years for this event: We expect ‘standing room only’ this year based on the topic and the speaker we are going to have.  Stay tuned for more about this in the next week or two.

In January, the second Tuesday of the month, we have joint a meeting scheduled with the Michiana Chapter of APICS- The Association for Operations Management.  This promises to be interesting and applicable session.

What would February be without some recognition of Valentine’s day?  Bring your spouse or partner to our February meeting free!  We will be hearing about teamwork as we are serenaded by one of the finest trio’s in Michiana.  You will be a hit with your guest with the meal and special activities we have planned.

March and April will feature topics our members have requested such as project management, workpaper management, and career development.  We will close this year with a blast in May!  Awards, recognition and something very different and memorable for our last meeting of the year.  You will definitely want to be there!

Take time to thank your board- this only works as a team effort: We all want the Michiana chapter of IIA to make a difference in our members’ lives, our community and our profession.

Administrative:

Please take two minutes for the following:

1.      Go to the IIA website (http://www.theiia.org/) log in and check/update your member profile.  We recently reviewed the data associated with our chapter and discovered a number of issues.  IIA believes implementation of new security measures may have corrupted some of the data. Please update your profile data.

2.      Take the time to write me a quick e-mail.  We need your feedback and support:

a.      How can the chapter better serve you?

b.      What topics are of professional interest you?  (Meetings and Seminars)

c.      If you could change one thing about our chapter, what would it be?

d.      Do you have a desire to be more active in the chapter – further your career - and if so what particular areas of interest would you have in mind:

·       Hospitality/Awards

·       Academics

·       Business Development

·       Media Relations

·       Community Relations

·       Planning

·       Finance

·       Employment

·       Certification

·       Government Relations

·       Newsletter

·       Research

·       Web Site

·       Technical

·       Other?

Thanks for your time.  Look for the newsletter in the next week or two.  Check our web page frequently for updates and fun new stuff.  And, most importantly, have a great weekend!
