I originally was accepted into the CIA's flagship certification program in January 2010. This certification window expires after 4 years, so mine will be up this January 2014. Due to many circumstances, I haven't had the opportunity to begin studying for the CIA until recently. I just passed Part 1 of the CIA last week. I was under the impression that I could re-register or extend my flagship certification window, but now I understand that may not be a possibility without losing all of my fees and exam results. Does anyone know how this process works? Since I passed Part 1, will I actually lose that when my certification expires on 1/11/14 if I don't complete all 3 parts by then? This would be totally discouraging not only from a financial perspective but also the fact that I put in a lot of time studying and would have to re-take a part that I've already passed. In addition, this would affect whether I should study and take any more parts before 1/11/14 only to have the chance of it not counting. Any help would be appreciated!

Your position is indeed a disappointing one. Check on the IIA website which provide guidance on the transition for parts passed in the old 4-Part structure that you will retain in the new 3-Part structure. Most likely, you will retain part 1 and have to re-register in the 3-Part structure to complete parts 2 and 3. You can follow up with IIA via its customer service (they are very helpful) whether you can transfer your fees already paid to those parts outstanding or will have to forfeit same and pay new fees. You may also need the new study materials.

I do hope this was some help.

Kindly log in your certificate management system, then go to FAQ it is stated clearly that all candidates must finish their certification within 4 years of approval if not finished within that period then ,you will lose out all your passed credits and start all over.So in this case you have the final option to register all the remaining parts and pass them at once.I was in a similar situation my registration expired end of August 2013 but passed the unpassed parts early august 2013.So I'm now CIA
