Hi,

I just took and failed CIA part 3 exam, this is my second attempt. My last attempt was in 2010 and I scored 570. Back then I used Wiley and IIA preparation software. This time I used Gleim latest edition and scored 518 points. I am so disappointed! In my last attempt I needed 'significant improvement' in financial accounting, so this time I really put effort into it and knew concept behind calculations. However, this exam was nothing like the previous one. This time I really felt like I am writing an exam that has nothing to do with the audit profession. There were maybe 4-5 questions requiring calculations (NPV, acid test ratio, total contribution margin), but the questions were worded in a very confusing way. The rest was IT, a bit of industry fragmentation, bonds. value added negotiation. My feedback is that this time exam is much more harder. I don't know if it is something to do with combining part 3 and 4 into one. I can honestly think that I felt I am much more prepared this time and I was shocked to see the result. Wording of questions is deliberately difficult, for example, one of answer option is 'social myopia', what is this supposed to mean? Never came across this term in audit world or in Gleim materials. There were a lot of questions where you have to select from 4 options, but not multiple choice (with one answer), but each option contains several answers. Just reading these questions gives you headache. I have a feeling that the IIA deliberately created this extremely difficult part 3 to prevent auditors from obtaining a certification. Moreover, the content of CIA part 3 has very little to do with the audit profession, it is created under false assumption that all auditors are IT auditors, which is not the case. I am deeply discouraged to retake it. No wonder somebody wrote the pass rate is only 40%. It is a money making venture! The staff at exam centre told me that this is the most difficult exam they run and most people fail!

Im sorry about your failure. I think the knowledge in the CIA 3 is very much relevant. Please develop a positive attitude towards the material. I read posts here before even starting part 3 and I was demotivated. I forced myself to study and I pass the exam first time. Actually part3 was the easiest of all my exams. I used Gleim and nothing else .Dont expect to get the questions word for word but if u understand the text and the explanations you will pass no doubt
