Dear All,

I have learned many great things from this forum when I was studying for CIA exams.

After I passed all parts, one day I received an email from IIA congratulating me for my “great success on CIA exams” and winning William S. Smith Bronze Medal Award for 2011.

https://global.theiia.org/about/about-the-iia/Pages/2011-CIA-Award-Winners.aspx

It is my great pleasure to share my pride with all of you who have contributed to this great forum.
I appreciate all the things I learned from this forum and think that now it is my turn to share my studying and exam experience!

I admit I have carefully read each and every post regarding the CIA exams in this forum. First I want to thank to all of you who have contributed to this great information source.

The only studying guide I had was Gleim’s 13th edition. I think if you have this source you see it is enough to get the 3rd highest degree : )
I strongly recommend you to read the book thoroughly before passing to questions. I know most of you have limited time but beginning directly from the questions without reading the book carefully is somehow “waste of questions”.
As many of you already know do not waste any time with “Publisher adapted” questions and do not miss any “cia adapted” questions in the book.

I know this will be really boring but begin by reading the IPPF (yes the famous “red book”) maybe 2 or 3 times!
This is a good starting point and it will give you a broad understanding of what is the main basic idea behind all the questions.

Finally I strongly recommend you to be the teacher of yourself by recording your voice and listening to these recordings when you are on the bus, car or anytime normally wasted. This is a triple learning process. First you understand the idea and then you record your voice as if you teach someone and finally you complete the whole learning process by listening your own voice(which is a bit strange but very effective thing to learn!). I had more than 500 recordings (2-3 minutes each) covering almost every tricky questions/subjects.

For the exam I strongly recommend you to take the exam in your native language. Although I am 100% sure of my English, I took all parts in Turkish language which gave me great opportunity to compare each and every question and confirm my answers twice! In some questions translations are so straight that the answer is really very apparent!

These may be my first humble advices.
I will be very pleased to receive your comments or questions on here or directly to my email address
omerkeremseckin@gmail.com

Wish you success for the exam.
Thanks for this great forum again.
Regards.

Hi,

Really, your advice is more valuable..! I am going to sit for my exam on the coming month, that is for CIA part 1. I use Gleim 16th Edition ‘Review Book’ and ‘Software’. Is it okay if study ‘only these two thoroughly’ rather going for other more materials, to pass the exam on the first attempt?

Regards,

shafeek in my opinion if you study thoroughly with Gleim Study material no need to review any other. (it sounds like an advertisement slogan ) Let me repeat once more; especially for cia I and and cia II it is really important to get the main idea behind the questions. In this regard I strongly advise to read and understand the "red book".
I hope you already passed your exam.

I receive many emails about CIA exams but unfortunately I am not checking my emails very frequently and reply emails late.

More conveniently you may contact me in my linkedin page which I am checking twice a day.
