Does anyone know where I can find some information and statistics regarding what percentage of companies report a material weakness in a given year? I have been able to find facts about certain subsets, such as how many large accelerated filers have material weaknesses or how many companies have material weaknesses related to tax, but not any general figures. Thanks!
Audit Analytics publishes research reports on accounting, legal, regulatory and related matters. As part of their Audit + Compliance Module, they publish an Internal Controls SOX Dashboard Report, which includes all SOX 404 assessments analyzed back to 2004 and categorized with their proprietary issues taxonomy. I haven't seen these recently, but the earlier versions I saw back in 2005-7 were pretty detailed.
You can access the reports by subscription or purchasing individual reports.
