I am attempting to put together a checklist that my department can use to review an audit engagement. By this I mean that someone in the group who was not part of an audit would look at things like:

were the objectives clearly stated
was testing sufficient and did it address the stated risks
are the conclusions supported by test results
etc.

What other items can be reviewed to ensure the audit was completed in accordance with IIA standards? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The Quality Assessment Manual put out by the IIA has excellent checklists. You need not go further than this resource.

I had to buy the IIA Quality Assessment Manual to get all the downloads. I used the manual to perform a self-assessment of my department and it was very useful.

Dear Mich, two separate QA checklists should be desinged.

1- Audit Department Level QA Review Checklist (covering Attribute Standards e.g. 1000, 1200, 1300, and Performance Standards e.g 2000, 2100, 2500, 2600)
2- Audit Assignment Level QAR Checklist (Covering Performance Standards e.g. 2200, 2300, 2400,

Further, guidence/testing procedures should be derived from organization's charter, internal audit manual, guidelines issued to auditors from time to time.
