I was involved in an SAP implementation a few years back. My company did not utilize our IA Dept. We hired a consulting firm to assist with the implementation, and also hired another consulting firm to perform an independent audit of the implementation. However, if your IA Dept is experienced in IT implementation auditing, they should get involved and perform this for your company. Whether it be a consulting firm or your IA Dept, they should be engauged early in the project, and not brought in toward the end, when there is little time to take any corrective action if issues are found. Hope this helps. coboyd

There is no need to think that when implementing SAP , then a special procedure should be followed not at all.The set steering committee will have already the approved standard procedures by management to follow, therefore, internal auditors will ensure that the approved standards are followed. However, the internal audit department will be more concerned to see that the follow controls are there:

(1) Preventive controls are effective:This goes on by ensuring that the controls employed during the system development life cycles are embedded and are audited by internal auditors.

(2) Since you have gone live now ,then you need to ensure that there compensating internal controls regarding the segregation of duties, for example the ordering of raw material will be done automatically in the system you may not even see an invoice. An invoice may be replaced by a contracts and goods received voucher may be replaced a receiving report which may not have a serial number, therefore,to compensate that you need to ensure that prevent controls are operating properly:

(a) A person receiving goods should log in with a unique password and all transactions performed should be in his/her profile to ensure that each and every individual is accountable

ETC
