I'd like to submit this general question for feedback -

My department conducts several concession audits of car rental companies operating on company property (we own an Airport). Typical areas of testing include concessions, rent, insurance, utilities, etc. My question is the following: for those of you who perform similar audits (or anyone else who cares to respond), what areas of testing do you find to be the most risky? Put another way, what areas do you typically have findings? If given the option, would you choose to alter the focus of the audit to one or two particular areas, or keep a broad scope covering all areas of the concession contract?

My company does not perform similar audits. However, just from general experience, the answer to your question depends on if the type of audit you are performing has been performed before and how long ago? If a similar audit has been performed within a reasonable period of time, then you can refer to those Work Papers and see what areas were weak and where you think more time should be spent. However, if a recent audit has not been performed, it might be a good idea to cover the entire concession contract and then conduct following audits based on your findings. Also, you might want to take into consideration areas that have had major changes take place recently or newer rental companies that have recently started operating on the properly.
