Quality Status Survey Results
We are pleased to release the results of The IIA's 2008 Quality Status Survey. This survey was sent to chief audit executives and directors who are IIA members or members of the thirteen IIA institutes who participated in the survey. Over 1,298 individuals worldwide responded to the survey. Specifically, 557 responses were received from USA and Canada, representing a response rate of 8.3%.
The objectives of the annual survey were to:
- Capture an annual "snapshot" of the global conformance level of the Quality Standards
- Collect benchmarking data to help organizations compare and contrast their Quality Assurance and Improvement program
- Identify the major causes that prevent organizations from undertaking an external quality assessment
Key findings of the 2008 survey include:
- Need to establish a quality assurance and improvement program - only 51.0% of the respondents indicate existence of such a program in their internal auditing activities
- High awareness of Standard 1312 that requires an external quality assessment at least every five years - 91.8% of the respondents said they are aware of the Standard.
- Status of having an external quality assessment - 32.2% of the respondents have had an external quality assessment. For those who have NOT conducted one, 35.8% consider themselves to be within the five-year cycle.
- Trend of different approaches of external quality assessment - full Quality Assessment (QA) is still the major approach, accounting for 61.7% of the market; with Self-Assessment with Independent Validation (SAIV) still gaining in popularity.
