1.       What is the purpose of the survey?
The purpose of The IIA’s Global Internal Audit Survey is to find out the latest information on the status of the internal audit profession around the world. The results will provide insight into emerging issues arising worldwide as well as developments and changes within the profession since the last survey was conducted in 2006. Your participation may contribute to the development of new standards and guidance.

After 2010, the survey will be repeated every five years, which will help the profession stay relevant and vibrant. It will document the history of the internal audit profession for years to come.

2.       Why should I participate?
Every practitioner’s input counts! Your participation guarantees that your voice is heard. Because the study is so comprehensive, the results of the survey will add unique value to the knowledge base of the profession.

3.       Who may take the survey?
The survey is open to all internal auditors anywhere in the world, including partners and staff at service provider organizations and academic professionals who teach or research topics related to the profession.

4.       How do I participate?
IIA members will receive an e-mail invitation to take part in the survey through their local IIA institute during the week of March 15, 2010. The survey will be open until May 21, 2010.

In addition, members and nonmembers may take the survey by going to www.theiia.org/global-survey.

5.       Who administers the survey?
The survey is administered by The IIA Research Foundation (The IIARF).

6.       Are my responses confidential?
The survey is entirely anonymous; none of your answers will be linked to any personal data.

7.       How long will it take to complete the survey? 
Depending on your current professional position, it may take as little as 20 minutes or up to 40 minutes to complete the survey.

8.       Can I stop and resume the survey at any point? 
Yes. When answering the survey, you may save your answers and come back to finish the survey at a later time. Due to the fact that the survey is anonymous, the survey link must be saved to your computer’s “favorites” list of Web addresses. Be sure to follow the instructions when saving the survey.

9.       In which languages is the survey available? 
The survey is going to be available in over 15 languages including English, French and Spanish.

10.   Is this the same type of survey my local institute does on a regular basis? 
Local institutes conduct various types of research important to their members and region. The IIA’s Global Internal Audit Survey — as the name indicates — is a global survey and will provide critical information for internal audit practitioners and IIA institutes alike. 11.   How long will the survey be open? 
The survey will be open for two months — from March 15 to May 21, 2010.

12.   How and when will the survey results be published?
The first set of results is slated to be published by the end of 2010.  Results published by The IIARF will be available in print and online. IIA members may download online copies at no cost. Hard copies will be available for purchase.

Local institutes may publish results of specific interest to their members and region. Institutes’ initial results also should be available by the end of 2010.
