IMAP Overview

The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) has focused a great deal of work on advocating for the internal audit profession. Advocacy is so critical to our profession that it is included in The IIA's Vision Statement: "The IIA will be the global voice of the internal audit profession; advocating its value, promoting best practice, and providing exceptional service to its members."

We know that thousands of internal auditors around the world are doing their part to educate others about the profession, but as a leader in The IIA, you play a vital role for the continued recognition, understanding and growth of the profession.

The International Mastering Advocacy Program (IMAP) Award is designed to recognize the extraordinary achievements of our North American chapters and institutes around the world who speak out on behalf of the profession, influence key stakeholders, and, through effective media relations and awareness activities, promote the value that internal auditing adds to organizations.

Here you will find IMAP details and guidelines about the criteria for this award and how you can be a part of this global initiative on this page. Our Web site is filled with in-depth information about our advocacy strategy, and tools and resources for you to use in your efforts. We've even created an online activity repository to share ideas and campaigns that our chapters and national institutes are undertaking.

The IMAP Winner will receive:

  • IMAP trophy
  • Recognition at The IIA's International Conference
  • Acknowledgement in IIA publications and on The IIA Web site
  • 10 Chapter Achievement Points (CAPs)

All entrants will receive a framed certificate; a copy of Sawyer's Words of Wisdom - a collection of articles by Lawrence B. Sawyer, the father of modern internal auditing, and 10 CAP points.

We look forward to receiving your IMAP entry and learning about the active and visible role you are playing in this effort to elevate the internal audit profession.
