Membership Award

Purpose
The International Membership Committee encourages membership recruitment and retention at the chapter and institute level. The Global Institute Membership Awards are presented annually to recognize chapters and institutes that are charging ahead - with innovative techniques to recruit and retain members.

In keeping with the theme "Progress Through Sharing," information submitted will be shared as best practices with other chapters and institutes.

The Awards
Three awards may be granted annually. Chapters and Institutes worldwide compete for three awards (first, second, and third place). Awards are presented at The IIA's annual International Conference and are announced on The IIA's Web site and in various periodicals. The winning institutes receive these items which they can proudly display at their gatherings:

  • First Place: An IIA wall banner and table cover featuring The IIA logo* and the institute's name in appropriate language
  • Second Place: An IIA table cover featuring The IIA logo* and the institute's name in appropriate language
  • Third Place: An IIA wall banner featuring The IIA logo* and the institute's name in appropriate language

* The IIA's logo can be replaced with your chapter or institute logo if you provide the artwork and the logo falls under IIA branding guidelines.

Submission Deadline - August 31, 2008

Eligibility
All institutes who have submitted their annual 2008-2009 Membership Recruitment and Retention Plan to IIA Headquarters by August 31, 2008 are eligible to compete. Your plan may bring you closer to receiving The IIA's 2009 Annual Membership Award. Plans submitted will be gathered, judged, and compared to your institutes actual results in growth and retention in comparison to others in the same size category.

Any activity or program conducted by an institute to recruit or retain members during the period June 1 through March 31 is eligible. Emphasis should be placed on innovation, as awards will recognize institutes who have utilized the most creative ways to target new members and retain current members and have gained results.

Judging Criteria
Activities or programs may be local, statewide, or national, but must originate within the institute. Award winners are determined primarily by the level of innovation and results. Other factors may include impact of the activity or program, level of involvement of members and volunteers, and ability for program or activity to be replicated by other institutes.

Best Practices from Previous Winners

  • Utilizing electronic and/or other media methods to promote membership
  • Focusing recruitment activities on specialty or industry groups such as government auditors
  • Taking advantage of institute events, Web sites, newsletters, etc. to recruit or retain members
  • Using inventive techniques to increase student and educator membership
  • Drawing on members' talents and resources to recruit or retain members
  • Developing and disseminating membership information to new audiences

All entries will be reviewed and winners determined by The IIA International Membership Committee.
