IIA Media Coverage Report

How to Read This Report

What is this report?

This report is intended to capture and summarize the media's coverage of The Institute of Internal Auditors' Global Headquarters, chapters, and institutes around the world. It is produced and distributed after each calendar quarter (Jan through March, April through June, July through September, and October through December), after all clips (stories that have appeared online or in print) have been captured through various sources. Because the internal audit profession is widely written about and referenced by the media, coverage in this report is specific to only The IIA's initiatives, activities, programs, and positions. It is not intended to include all of the media's coverage of the internal audit profession. Due to The IIA's vast exposure in the media across the globe, the report is only an estimated snapshot of activities. It should not be viewed as an exact measurement or an entirely complete compilation.

What sources are used to compile this report?

Various media monitoring services and methods exist. This report has been compiled through:

  • BurellesLuce Monitoring Services
  • Lexis-Nexis
  • Google Alerts
  • Research by IIA institutes and chapters
  • Research by IIA staff and volunteers

Resources capturing media coverage outside of the US are limited, with some clips collected through BurrellesLuce international monitoring service. Because of this limited resource, this report will reflect a large amount of US media clips. The IIA's institutes are encouraged to send copies of their media coverage for inclusion in the reports. Clips should be directed to: scott.mccallum@theiia.org, or IIA Corporate Communications, 247 Maitland Ave., Altamonte Springs, FL, USA 32701.

How is this report organized?

Each quarterly report will consist of an executive summary, metrics, a list of media outlets covering The IIA during the previous calendar quarter, and copies of media coverage highlights divided by geographic region. Media coverage that only briefly mentions the The IIA, chapter events, and certification designations has not been included in the highlights.

Executive Summary: The Executive Summary provides a qualitative overview of the previous calendar quarter's significant media coverage and activities. It gives further insight into the various news stories that included information about or quotes from The IIA. The Metrics provide a quantitative overview of the previous calendar quarter's media coverage in its entirety. They give a statistical breakdown of various measures such as the amount of coverage, possible reach, and the number of media outlets providing coverage to The IIA. They also, when applicable, list the stated goal for each metric. Reports covering the fourth calendar quarter also will include cumulative Year-end metrics.

Highlights by Region: Copies of significant media coverage are included, separated into the following geographic regions: North America; Latin/Central/South America, Mexico and the Caribbean; Africa; the Middle East and India; Europe; and Asia and the South Pacific. For online versions of this report, clip highlights will be organized into separate digital files for each region.
