Phil Popehn directs casino gaming and nongaming audits for the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community. He was previously director of internal audit for Grand Casino Mille Lacs, Grand Casino Hinckley, and Grand Casinos Inc. Popehn also served for 15 years at Unisys Corp. (now Lockheed Martin Corp). During his 11 years as a Unisys senior audit specialist, he planned, conducted, and reported on financial, operational, and computer audits for the company's commercial and defense divisions. He also assisted the legal department and the corporate ombudsman in investigations of fraud and contract irregularities. Popehn is a member of The IIA's Gaming Audit Group Board of Directors and Gaming Conference Committee. |

Arthur Askins has more than 30 years of international experience. He previously served in various auditing and financial positions for Resorts International Hotel and Casino; Divi Hotel and Casino in the Caribbean; Isle of Capri Casinos in Iowa, Illinois, and Mississippi; Hollywood Casino in Mississippi; and Caesars Casino in Mississippi. Askins has spoken at various colleges, universities, and professional associations. He has received numerous awards for his commitment to community service, including the Community Accountant Service award from the Accountants in the Public Interest in Philadelphia. Askins served as IMA national director and charter president of an award-winning IMA Chapter. He is also a former member of the IMA Board of Directors. |

Joe Smith has more than 30 years of experience in the gaming industry. He established Joe Smith LLC, Certified Public Accountants, in 2011, after retiring from the National Indian Gaming Commission as director of Audits, a position he held for 12 years. During his tenure with the agency, Smith received several awards and was recognized by the Department of Justice for his assistance in an organized crime investigation. He also served as a member of the Bank Secrecy Act Advisory Group. Previously, Smith was executive director of the Grand Ronde Gaming Commission in Oregon and investigator and auditor for the Nevada Gaming Control Board. Before that, he was an internal auditor for the Golden Nugget Casino. |

Michael Zimmerman serves the Four Winds Casino and Resort. Previously, he was the internal audit manager for the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of Potawatomi Gaming Commission at Firekeepers Casino. Before that, he was a field auditor with the National Indian Gaming Commission in St. Paul, Minn., and he spent five years as a consultant, forensic accountant, and fraud examiner with RSM McGladrey. Zimmerman has assisted tribes in developing TICS and interpreting MICS. He conducted numerous criminal investigations and provided training to internal auditors for casinos and gaming commissions. |
