Romeo-Beehler shares her views on how Toronto’s audit department has developed the expertise to gain recognition in the performance auditing field and offers suggestions to internal auditors who may be encountering any of the recognized 15 barriers to performance auditing.

Beverly Romeo-Beehler has worked for auditors general offices across all three levels of Canadian government. Her expertise in public sector audit, oversight, transparency and accountability spans a 23-year career. As an assistant auditor general in British Columbia, Romeo-Beehler led national initiatives for auditors general, including serving as chair of the Auditor General National Performance Audit Conference and leading the National Audit Learning Network collaboration. Her work earned her several leadership awards including awards from the Premier for service excellence and organizational transformation. Romeo-Beehler also served as a senior reviewer of public complaints against the RCMP and worked with the National Defence Ombudsman in Ottawa. She is a non-practicing lawyer and is currently enrolled in the Director's Education Program at the University of Toronto's Rotman School of Management.
