Expansion enhances professional development, certification opportunities, and alignment with global standards for internal auditors worldwide
LAKE MARY, Fla. (October 20, 2025) – The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) today announced IIA-Mexico and IIA-Namibia as the latest National Institutes to join its global federation, further extending the association’s reach and influence as the leading voice for standards, certifications, education, research, and technical guidance for the profession.
As approved National Institutes, IIA-Mexico and IIA-Namibia now have the resources to support internal auditors across their countries while operating under the full scope of The IIA’s Standards. They can also collaborate with local partners and stakeholders to deliver training and professional development programs for public and private sector auditors, including pathways to globally recognized certifications such as the Certified Internal Auditor® (CIA®).
“On behalf of The IIA, I am proud to welcome IIA-Mexico and IIA-Namibia to our global network of National Institutes,” said Anthony Pugliese, CIA, CPA, CGMA, CITP, President and CEO of The IIA. “This milestone ensures practitioners in those countries have direct access to The IIA’s guidance, resources, and globally recognized tools needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving environment. Their inclusion further reinforces our shared commitment to advancing the profession both locally and globally.”
IIA-Mexico and IIA-Namibia join The IIA at an important time for the profession, as internal auditors around the world implement the updated Global Internal Audit Standards™, which took effect earlier this year. These Standards provide a comprehensive, accessible guide designed to elevate performance across all sectors. This milestone also aligns with The IIA’s broader transformation, including the release of its first two Topical Requirements on Cybersecurity and Third-Party – key elements of The IIA’s International Professional Practices Framework® (IPPF®). These requirements establish a consistent baseline for assessing specific risk areas, with additional topics scheduled for release in 2026.
To achieve National Institute status, IIA-Mexico and IIA-Namibia completed a rigorous preparation process, demonstrating sustainable strategic plans, a commitment to ethical practices and compliance, and a strong governance framework.
With these two additions, The IIA’s 265,000 members are supported by a global network of 119 National Institutes representing more than 170 countries and territories.
